Experimental Forest

The prime directive for the forest is to be a well-managed, self-sustaining, ecologically healthy, living laboratory, classroom and recreational resource for the benefit of the university, commerce and citizenry of South Carolina, vouchsafed with a mandate to protect and promote in perpetuity the forest as an irreplaceable educational, environmental, scientific and social asset.

Equestrian Trails

This account funds work that will directly apply to the maintenance and enhancement of equestrian trails.  Funds in this account have been focusing on trails in the Fant’s Grove area to date.  Funds are used for maps, trails, bridges, and construction. 

  • Donations of less than $25 will receive a paper map of the Fant’s Grove Trail areas. 
  • Donations of $25-$99 will receive a water/tear-resistant map of the Fant’s Grove Trail areas.
  • Donations over $100 will receive a water/tear-resistant map of the Fant’s Grove Trail areas and the book "Recreational Horse Trails in Rural and Wildland Areas: Design, Construction and Maintenance"- by Dr. Gene W. Wood.  This is the first equestrian trails book of its kind and covers a broad array of topics, a $50 value.
